I will be getting some Werner paddles this month.
I am leaning towards getting 2 piece paddles with 10 deg adjustments possible.
What's the track record on their 2 piece paddles?
If they're hecka strong I like the breakdown feature for slepping around...stuffing all my
stuff into the boat for travel to and from the water.

I have my choice of paddles so I don't want to screw up.

I'm an old school boater just getting back into it after a 15 year break.
I was doing class 5 water but will be happy just to get back to pushy class 4.
I'm 5'9" and 180 lbs.
Mostly river running but plan on play boating down the road a bit.

I picked up a Mamba 8.5 yesterday! Woo Hoo!
My last boat was a Priyon T Slalom

Cheers,
Wayne

Surely someone must have opinion on the strength and durability of Werner
one piece vs two piece.

Back when I was doing a lot of boating I only used 2 piece paddles.
Never broke the breakdown but plenty of blades.
One reason I liked the 2 piece back then was all my paddles could be used as a spare.
With the much shorter boats that isn't an option, even with the 8'5" long Mamba8.5.

If it was me I'd go the 1 piece. I'd expect it to be stronger. Also the 2 piece may have a little movement/give in it which also wouldn't be ideal. Having said that I've never actually paddled with a 2 piece. However, unless you NEED a 2 piece for some reason, like you physically can't transport a 1 piece, I don't know why you'd want to use a 2 piece over a single piece. But that's just my personal opinion.

t try the varilock lock system on a w1 select paddle.it's really great, with a bent shaft you can have 188-191cm 191-194cm and 194-197cm and the angle is 0-45degre

it's a bit more weight on the paddle but it's tough and stiff, with a straight shaft too

i use a one pièce paddle, because for the same quality the one piece is cheaper. i try the variolock system and it's like a one piece paddle no like the lendal or aquabound system that move. if you're play boating you want a short paddle with no angle, when you creek you want a bit longer paddle with 15-30 deg. so you can have both in one paddle easy to carry.

it's the first system that i try that made a two piece paddle stiff and fun to paddle

I will be going with the Werner.
I am hoping that someone with experience with their breakdown system gives some feedback.
I used to use 2 piece paddles almost exclusively. Pretty convenient to put all my gear in the boat
and put a cover on it for travel. Never had one break at the breakdown.
The early Harmony breakdown paddles got pretty sloppy after a while.

I have used 2 and four piece paddles, yes you do get play in the joints, however this can be rectified with some luvly gaffa tape then thers no play. Personally I also use a 1 piece, and have a back up paddle in the back of the boat 4 piece lendal padlock. The Mambas a lovely boat

If it were me, I would stick to a 1 piece paddle...

Although Werner has a stellar reputation, I would remember that a breakdown paddle has an obvious weak point... By your own admission you are planning on running pushy C4 water... If it were me, I would not want to be thinking about paddle durability.

AS I understand it, breakdown paddles are designed for exactly that... a breakdown or loss of your primary paddle... It'll get you down the water but the constant wear and tear of assembly would eventually lead to problems...

Welcome back to the water brother... best decision you could make IMO  :woohoo:
