You're doing better at it than me, that's for sure! I have a habit of not edging enough so I don't get up properly.

Yours looks pretty good. Initially your double pump looks good, your head was near the water and you were balanced for a split second. The reason you fell on your head is because you leaned backward.

When you are trying to bow stall, leaning forward actually brings your feet up, your stern down, so therefore, your boat levels out. Leaning backward actually pushes your feet deeper into the water, pulls your stern up, so you fall flat on your face.

Do a double pump as you did in your video, then try to keep your face on the surface of the water to begin with, until you learn the exact balance points. Good Luck!

your gettin up pretty good.. So.. what I know about balancing in the bowstall is the same to what Pishk was talking about. I can't balance for longer than 3 seconds myself but I'm getting better..

When you lift your head and chest higher and extend your back it pushes your feet down, causing you to fall over as you did in your video. when you put your head closer the water, it pulls your feet closer to you, causing your bow to come up.

So what does this mean to you as your balancing..
First, you want to have your paddle a little further away from your boat when you've finished your double pump, to make a "triangle" between your bow, head and paddle blades. . As you initiate next time, try going into it with your chest out, flexing your stomach and lower back a little. This will engage your hip flexors and give you better control of the bow as it sinks... Keep practicing your double pump so that you learn where you are more balanced once your vertical.

Now, when you're in your bow stall or going into it, pick a point in front of you, whether it's a beach, or pool side, or hot chick, to focus on. if you feel your bow surfacing, than look up a little more, if you feel your bow diving and your gonna fall face first, stretch out your arms, push them down more, and look down, face in the water.. the key is to pick a point in front of you and look at it, extend your arms out and have them a little further away from the boat than you do in the video.. GOOD LUCK

Don't know if this will help but I also struggled to bow stall from a double pump untill I stopped trying so hard.

I know that sounds strange but sometimes you just put too much power into your reverse stroke and it is almost impossible to stop your boat rotating past vertical. It looks, from the clip, that you might have this problem.

I see you try build up speed before you initiate the double pump. I find it much easier to hold the stall if I do the double pump at a slow pace or a complete stop. You have more control over a boat with less momentum.

Can you hold a stall for a while from a plowing ender?? It always helps to learn this first as you can learn more about the balancing position.

Cheers and good luck.B)

If you edge too much, you'll fall over. A bow stall is not vertical, remember that... Also, if you stand up on the foot pegs, you will fall on your head.

I don't have any up to date footage but when I can paddle again (around November) I will get some specific footage and do some instructional videos on various things... Hope this helps. :cheer:

Heya!
The way I see it - you have your feet moving away from you while you are in process of getting vertical. You seem to rely a lot on the upper body strength and less on the lower part.
Picture a pair of scissors formed by your paddle and your feet (inside the kayak :) ).
The beginning of the double pump - you open the "scissors", then you try to close them. This way your feet go underneath you or just in front of you instead of going back and forcing your body into an open position (then you just fall on your head).
Important - the whole thing is done by the core, your stomach muscles!
Hope this helps. Just my opinion.
Keep us posted on the progress :) .
