Corrosion and growth 16 years 8 months ago #22677

Hello all,

Ocean kayaks have a system of moulded in high strength brass threaded mountings for accessories and attachments.

While I do believe this is a fantastic idea (IMHO), no penetration to inner hull etc.

Has any one with an older yak used in salt or brackish water that has signs of corrosion or growth (swelling indicating corrosion) at these attachment points?

Or has anyone experienced frozen (corroded in) accessories?

Own a number of yaks, all sit in GRP, looking to buy first SOT poly fisher/diver.

First choices appear to be OK Prowler ELITE 15, (Trident not to be available in Australia), or Tarpon 160i, or Search 15. Maybe a Moken but I have heard/read there are problems with these?

Any guidance and advice on these yaks is most welcome.

Cheers, Mark

I have many OK kayaks and some of the first with the inserts for attachments. I have to say it is a huge improvement over the pop rivits. No leaks and no corrosion on any of them. I use my kayaks strickly in salt water and in warmer climates where corrosion can be a huge issue.
Hope this helps, Sorry you can't get the tridents where you are you would love them.
