Then again, they had to store their fish on top of the kayak, which means that the sharks could have tried to eat the kayaks for the salmon. Also, they would probably have the scent of salmon on their hands, which could be fairly dangerous. Combine this with the cold Alaskan water, and it actually is fairly dangerous. Also, it appears that they are wearing drypants and a drytop, but a simple cotton/wool toboggan, which would provide no protection against freezing water. Here is a direct quote from the article: "Our biggest concerns were staying upright in the kayaks and keeping from getting tangled up in the gear and pulled over as well." My biggest concern wouldn't be falling in as much as having angry 700 lb sharks trying to find salmon in your kayak.
