I have this bike rack
www.amazon.com/Saris-Bones-2-Bike-Trunk-Rack/dp/B000QW58NQ

I can point both of the arms straight up, perpendicular to the sky so that they go right into the cockpit of a jackson 4fun. I then use a 14 ft ratchet tie down and loop it through my car and hook it to the handles on the front and back of the boat. I then use another ratchet tie down and wrap it around the boat and the base of the bike rack. Pretty much makes the boat look like a big spoiler on my corolla. I have hit 50mph and the boat seems very stable.

What do you guy think?

I was putting the boat on my roof, and I would use 2 square pool noodles with the tie downs however every time I would tie the boat down it would dent my roof in on my corolla, so i decided to try the bike rack instead. Really not trying to spend 200 bucks on a roof rack, even though I need to get one eventually.

This is only a temporary solution for the year. Any other suggestions?

Fold some seats down and put it inside...? :ask: Would that work on your car/boat setup? Just an idea. :motor:

I folded downt he front seat and it was able to slide from the back seat to the front. Not leaving much room for anyone to sit. I tried sliding it through the trunk with the back seats down...but not trying to put the boat in the car when it is wet. =)

hi there!

the best solution I've seen for that is to use one of those rubber cilindric things kids use to play at swiming pools. They have a hole inside, just put a strap inside and tie it to the car roof through the window. Then put the kayak on it and use another set of straps/rope to tie to the car.

that works just fine, it's not showy to look at, but it works really well, your kayak wont move an inch, tough, the air flowing through the window will drive you mad when driving at high speeds

hope that works for you too

thanks for the response. I tried that with the square pool noodles. but every time I tighten my boat down, my roof dents in....so I have been using the bike rack to hold the boat. It works great! I haven't tested high speeds only up to 65-70 for short periods of time. I put the boat on the bike rack with the rack sticking inside the cockpit of the boat and use to ties to tied it down REAL tight. only sticks out half a foot on both sides of the car.
