Hi there, I'm from Argentina and since there are no plastic kayak factories here I was wondering how to buy kayaks from other countries of the continent. If anyone has any info about it it'd be great, we are specially interested in used and old kayaks because all we are able to buy with our incomes ( regular salary is about 150 U$S)

we are interested in kayaks such as Dagger RPM, Centrifuge, Ego, Perception AMP or MrClean

anyway, I belive It's unlikely that you would want to sell kayaks to Argentina having the chance of doing so in your own country, still, if anyone is interested my e-mail is:

Head over to the Futalefu River in Chile and see if you can find someone selling a boat. Also, use the Playak forums under your region. You may want to give exchile a call, since they are based near the Futalefu.

the forum for south america is almost empty, if it doesnt bother i would rather write here... still i would need more opinions, have seen lots of post of cheap-used kayak

Hey There, getting boats as you know into Argentina is a real drag. The inport tax is way out of line. You can try going to Pucon in Chili and talk to Rodrigo at the Pucon Kayak Shop. We were there a couple years back and he had lots of used boats. You will need to get them back home though and they are pretty tough at the boarder. We got some bliss-Stick boats to a WW company up in Bariloche but they had to put them on the bottom of a vegetable truck.

hi there, thanks for the kayakero.com.ar tip, i always check there, but it takes about 3 month waiting for any kayak to be shown for sale. Im trying to reach forum from uruguay, chile and brasil, but i've not been succesfull yet.

anyways, if any of you guys are thinking on going to argentina for a kayak trip, think of me as a way of getting rid of your kayak taxes at the airport hehe

Well, that may even be a very good solution to your problem: if you organise a few good paddling trips (and act as a guide/translator etc.) in exchange for a decent kayak in good shape you may very well find some people willing to fly over to Argentina for a paddling trip.

Another option might be: get in touch with a kayaking company and get them to send a few of their team paddlers to your area. Show them around, tell them the sweet spots on your local rivers and get paid by them leaving their boats and gear or something?

A third option may be a slightly illegal one: if you have access to a boat you like, borrow it for a few days and make yourself a composite copy (polyester/glass or even epoxy and carbon/kevlar). Obviously this is not the way things should go because you are infringing copyrights etc. but as long as you simply make one or two boats for your own personal use I guess the bigger kayaking companies won't notice. Besides, it's not as if they would have been able to sell a boat to you anyway, because they don't have dealers over there.

There are a few legal used recent model play kayaks available in both Bariloche and Trevelin Argentina.

Another place is direct with exchile.com in Futaleufu Chile near the border of Argentina. They sell their kayaks every March. But they do not take any to Argentina. You can pick a used kayak there and if you are traveling with just one personal kayak you can usually get back across the border.

Do not try to make a business at of this or travel with more than one kayak or the customs agents will stop you and try to charge you tax, for reason it is the law. For this reason get a used kayak and only one for your use or get them used from listed above.

Hi exchile, for the time being, it's impossible for me to go on a trip to Chile, since it's about 2700km from my town and it would became as expensive as buying a brand new kayak from US, Brazil or Europe, and I don't have that kind of money right now.
anyway, still, I'm greatfull for your response...
I guess you are from Chile, do you have any kayak flog? you guys have quite some rivers...
