Robson NRG 16 years 6 months ago #23561

Hi, I have the chance to buy a Robson NRG, but i cant find many reveiws on the boat. Does anyone know anything about the boat, is it any good. I will mostly be using it in the surf, and was wondering how good it is in the surf.

Thanks for all your help.

Steve

First off, I have never paddled the boat, never sat in it, never even seen one in real life. With that in mind, here are my thoughts. :)

It is short. This will be good for running down a wave and getting some air, even some really big air - on the ocean. It will be too slow to actually ride the wave. If you're on a wave that runs (left or right) you will not be able to stay in the critical section and will be overtaken by the foam. You will also hit the bottom and not have enough speed to carve back up to the top of the wave. No doubt you'll have some fun in the surf, but you won't really be surfing in the true sense of the word. A surf kayak (any surf kayak) would blow this out of the water...

I'm also assuming you only want to surf in the ocean. Otherwise if you're into rivers as well then it could potentially be an option. Make sure you can fit inside - not sure how tall/heavy you are. Try it if you can. I would suggest trying several other boats too. The wrong choice in the beginning can really hamper you. Hope this helps! Good luck mate B)

Yeah, i have had a go in one, and i can fit in it.

All i wanted really was something that would be fun in the surf, i have only been kayaking a few years, nothing to serious, and just been offered a kayak pretty cheaply, and the only place i could use it would be the surf, as i live right near the beach. I may occasionly paddle down a slow moving river, which i know is harder in a playboat.

I dont really have that much money as i am only 16, and this boat seems like a good offer to me. do you think there are any other places i could find a relatively cheap second hand boat, preferably around £250 - £300. Any websites posted would be much appreciated.

Thanks Adrian

No worries. :) Shop around and take your time. Browse the for sale (FS) forums here on Playak. You might find something. Otherwise I'm sure someone local will post a more useful reply.
