Riot boogie or Mega maverick --- Plastic 16 years 6 months ago #23596

Hey peeps.. i have been offered wither a mega maverick or a riot boogie for £250

I have not done much surf kayaking before but have paddled a maverick before for a few sessions. What would you suggest being the best boat for me to buy?

Thanks Andy

As long as the beaches you plan on being on are not rocky, you should get the Mega, since they specialize in surf kayaks. It looks like the Riot's seat is further back than the mega, which I have no clue if it makes a difference, but I think that the Mega would get back endered easier.

Mega without a doubt.

I once owned a Mega Maverick (and a few other surfkayaks from Mega, The X-Ray, Marauder, Neutron) and I must say it is not the most comfy boat out there. Especially if you are tall (like me, 6'4") your legs are killing you after 20 minutes.

The Riot Boogie is a lot more like a playboat and if you're new to surfkayaking I would go with the Boogie.

If you liked the Maverick and were comfortable enough in it to enjoy a session, go for the Maverick. But if I were you I would try to get myself a Neutron :)

Personally I prefer the Boogie from the two you have listed, both have good and bad points try the boogie out before if you can, that should help you come to a discision on which is better for you.

Also consider the Valley Storm and the Neutron in plastic surf boats

Just as a reminder, andrew has the chance to get either a Riot Boogie or a Mega Maverick for 250 pounds. Therefore, he will probably not look at too many other boats, as he is primarily interested in these 2 surf kayaks.

But it can't hurt to give him the advice to look around a bit more for a much better boat. The Neutron already had two votes, given independent of each other. Especially if he probably does not look around any further (and IMHO he should).

Sometimes people ask which one is best, whereas a third option would be a choice that in the long run is a lot better (although it might not seem so at first because the boats is more expensive or something).

But from the two options, I'd go for the Boogie. But that is because I really did not like seating position in the Maverick.

Could you demo both boats before you buy?? that would be the way to go..

Fluid Element would be a good choice for something in between the 2 options that you are looking at for sure.
