Modify Spraydeck 16 years 4 months ago #24136

I recently bought a PeakUk freeride deck, but seeing as there is no extra small i had to take the small. Its still a little big around the waist and the water keeps on coming through... is there any way I can stop this without losing my warranty??

One of the guys in my polo team use to tie a short legnth of bike inner tube around his waste. No damage to the deck but not sure how easy it was to get off if you really need to guess it is no worse than a really tight spraydeck. Otherwise you could always try some webbing with a plastic release buckle.

You would probably be better off finding a really small bike tire, and you don't really need to worry too much about taking your whole sprayskirt off of your body, just your boat. I am sure that there have been a few situations where people caught a log with their skirt, but as long as you have a good knife, you should be fine. Also, why didn't you get a different brand skirt if you knew that the PeakUK skirt would be too big? Another option would be, like Dan said, a drytop, since if the waist is snug on the drytop, you should be fine.

Is it much to big? Or just slightly too big?

Neoprene (wetsuit material) will shrink slightly over time. I also find that if I use a small spraydeck tunnel, it will be tighter on me, but will actually leave a small gap where my spine is because that part of my back is concaved. If I use a medium its slightly looser all around, but because of the extra material, it seems to seal over my spine area better leaving no gaps.

Either way if you're only wearing a spraydeck you're going to get water into your kayak. If you want to stay completely dry then you might want to look at wearing a cag/drytop as well.

Or just try the tyre tube method, or use something else like a belt (if you can find one with a buckle that won't cause any damage).
