Buoyancy aid & Spray deck required 16 years 4 months ago #24351

Ok, well I am in need of some assistance for a buoyancy aid, I know it's important to try them on before you buy, so I will, but I wanted to see what recommendations people have to good makes/ranges and what to defiantly avoid.

I also want a spray deck, so again, any recommendations for good makes/models? or ones to avoid? Also if someone could explain the size I need it would be great, as I've seen them in different sizes (eg small cockpit, keyhole, large cockpit etc)]

Lastly, if anyone knows any good shop I can look in fairly close to Sheffield, I know robin hood water sports have a shop in Manchester, but that's about 1 1/2 hours drive.

Thanks to anyone who spends time on this, and if any more info is required, just ask.

for a PFD/BA, I use the Stohlquist Flowter, because it is inexpensive, comfortable, and still allows a full range of motion. The foam is also spread out evenly, making it thinner, unlike some of the Astrals. It also has a pretty big front zipper pocket. If you want a rescue vest, the Astral Green Jacket or the Nookie River Monster are the first 2 that come to mind, although they are in the $200 range, if I remember correctly. As far as sprayskirts, most brands are fine, but the more popular ones in the US are Seals, Snap Dragon, and IR. I had an NRS one first that was well built, but it was slightly too small for my boat. I use the Shockwave, but if you want a really dry skirt, look at the PeakUK Freestyle, the IR SBD, and rands like the Mountain Surf Dur-O-Ring.

Cheers for the reply, however I can't seem to find anything by most of those brands, I can only find Astral, Kookie and PeakUK, are the others US only brands, or am I looking in the wrong place?

I am looking in these sites:
www.roho.co.uk/
www.wipeoutwatersports.co.uk/

thanks

According to their site, they have dealers in Norway and Sweden. Here's one site that I found: Square Rock .
