Palm Sidewinder Classic, good, or bad? 16 years 4 months ago #24453

I may be able to purchase a second had (hardly used) Palm Sidewinder Classic drysuit, and was wondering, are these suits any good for kayaking in? This will be my first dry suit purchase, and with the research I have done, I heard that unless you have somewhere to tuck the top of the spray deck in, you will get a lot more water in the kayak, is there any truth in this?

A new suit is here: www.wipeoutwatersports.co.uk/catalog/pro...675&products_id=1625

Thanks all
Richard

The first example that comes to mind for a drysuit with a spot for the skirt would be the IR Double D Drysuit . They have already planned making a drysuit with a built in skirt, seen here . If you have a watertight skirt like the Mountain Surf Dur-O-Ring, IR SBD, or another rand/dry lip skirt, then not much water will get in as long as it is the right size for your boat and waist. You may want to check if it has a relief zipper as well. It will work fine for kayaking, but you can get better models that have a covered zipper, relief zipper, latex booties, inner and outer tunnels for a skirt, etc. How much can you get it for? One last thing: if the gaskets are old, then you will spend a good bit of money replacing them, since there are 5 latex gaskets on it.

thanks for the reply, the suit seals look to be in very good condition, it doesn't have a relief zipper, but it front entry, so shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I don't know exactly how to tell how old/worn/used/abused the gaskets are, since I don't have latex gaskets on my semi-dry top. If they have ever been trimmed, make sure that they were cut cleanly, and make sure that the gaskets are very snug to prevent water getting in. As far as the relief zipper, the front entry will probably be a few inches higher than where a relief zipper is, which means that you would have to take off the arms and torso in order to "relieve" yourself. What is the drysuit's price from the person who is offering it?
