As long as it is a straight shaft, pretty much any size 191 or more would be fine. I am around 5'7" and paddle with a 200 cm Werner, but it is all personal preference. Also, a deciding factor is how much money you want to spend, because if you get a paddle that fits him now, he will probably outgrow it in a few years. He may also need a small shaft, but here is a good idea of what to get from Werner's website: here .

I will be getting a 194 for it's performance playing, it suits me better. so it really comes down to what he likes better. I wouldn't go above 197cm for sure. maybe stick with a 194cm, It may be personal preference but that's what i would recommend.

cjcc Offline Platinum Member Posts: 710 Thank you received: 1	I also use it for rec paddling, but it is only about 1 inch longer than your paddle and about 3 inches longer than the recommended length for me of 191-194 cm according to Werner's site. 3 inches isn't very much, but I didn't want to outgrow my paddle. Also, I got it without looking at the length, but I think that the size is perfect.
