Kayak Forum for West Virginia, location Lower Gauley, Diagonal Ledges 16 years 2 months ago #24988

Hi
I'm looking for a possibility to contact paddlers from West Virginia. I'm travel in March true this area and I'm there only with my girlfriend (she doe not paddle).
So I might need people to paddle with.
Do anybody know a forum or a community for the area of New River
Gorge and Gauley.

Another think. I'm also interested in playspots and the "Lower Gauley, Diagonal Ledges" offers one but the descriptionis not sufficent to found it on a google map. Can someboudy please mark it on a map and send me the link.
Thanks and see you on the river
Tobias

Im a little south of there... march is touch and go for those rivers as there are still chances for ice...

I would also post over on www.boatertalk.com lots of WV boaters on that site

So I hope it wil be a warm March that those rivers are free of ice otherwise i have to skip them.
Thanks for the beta with the forum it will help to contackt people when I'm there.

Another think.
Can anybody mark the location of the lower Gaule, Diagonal Ledge (surfing wave) on a map so that i can find it without problems? The description on playak was probably wrong I could not manage to find that spot at the google map.

Click on the tab labeled map to see the location of the rapids, and in the upper right hand corner click satellite.

Tobias, water levels for the lower Gauley can be real "iffy" that time of year. might do better in northern WV or Potomac in DC area. bob

The Green River is flowing in Asheville, NC, and I think that Watauga might be as well. If somebody is in one of those areas, post the current levels.

For sure,

If youre into Creeking you need to swing down to North Carolina. The Green is a dam released class 5 creek run, high quality! Wautaga is arguably one of the best class four creek runs on earth but it takes a rain event (seldom lately) to bump it up to a runnable level. We have the Ocoee 3 hrs away if youre looking for a playboat run, Nolichucki ahhh the list goes on and on and on...

Id go to www.boatingbeta.com it has the flow levels and brief river info. If I can help LMK. I know a few of those runs really well

Thanks for all those answers.
I'm realy hope that whater levels for Gauley will be fine because we are visiting a nearby climbing area (New River Gorge). But is good to know that ther is something in north WV what we migth pass.
The creeking sounds realy good but it is far away and not close to our chosen route. The other think is, that I will have only a playboat and it doesn't makes sens to buy 2 boats for a 4 month trip.
Thanks says Tobias
