Spray deck advice 16 years 1 month ago #25576

Hiya
I have just inherited a sit in kayak and want to know if I really need to use a spray deck on a canal given its calm and no chance of meeting any white water rapids, I guess until I get confortable with being in the kayak I would prefer not to use one?

Thanks Shaun

For you, I would get the IR Sun Skirt . It will keep the sun off of your legs, but not restrict you in the event of a capsize. If you can post a picture of the kayak (seat, backband, etc) as well as a side shot of the kayak, we can get a better idea of what boat you have. If it doesn't have thigh braces on the front edges of the cockpit rim, then you should get the sun skirt, but if it does, then I would get a neoprene skirt, like the IR Shockwave .

A sprayskirt also provides rain protection and sun protection, which is important if you are paddling for a long period of time.

Flat water only? no need. Save your money.

Only 1 pic was attached, but I use a skirt, even with my rec kayak on flatwater. It provides sun and weather protection. I can't see it clearly, but if you could attach a picture of the rocker or side view of the kayak, as well as the outfitting (back rest, seat pad) then we could make a better decision. An actual picture of the boat would be better, since many boats are about that size :) .
