Trylon ABS vs Rotomolded polyethylene. 16 years 2 weeks ago #25806

I'm having trouble deciding between buying a Hurricane Santee 116 sport made of Trylon ABS material and an Emotion Advant-Edge rotomolded polyethylene kayak.
I will be going down shallow streams after heavy rains so I will be going over rocks and bumping into or slidding over stringers more often than the average river venturer. The Santee is 12 lbs lighter and should handle shallower water, but I have read about Trylon cracking easier. The Santee is about twice the cost of an Emotion but I'm willing to pay more becuse of the weight factor. Unless the Santee can't take the punishment.
Can someone give some advice?

It sounds like you would be better off with a boat like a Necky Manitou Sport, Liquid Logic Remix XP10, Jackson Allwater 10, or something comparable, since you said that you will be scraping on rocks. What river are you paddling on? As for your choices, you would be better off with the Emotion, only because plastic doesn't break as easily as a composite in most cases.

Prijon also makes strong boats.

I want to thank you for your reply. You just saved me hundreds of dollars, and probably a lot of frustration.

Yep. I have both. Trylon is way stronger than kevlar or fiberglass but you wouldn't bounce off rocks and stuff with it. Go plastic for that.
