Hi, am considering a few boats for river running up to grade 3/4. I'm about 5' 9" and 150lbs body weight. Considering Wavesport Diesel 65, Mamba 7.5 and Pyranha Burn medium. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks, Shanks

Jackson Fun and the Fluid Spice would work.

Want something a bit more stable than a playboat that's why I've been considering the Diesel 65, Mamba 7.5 and possibly medium burn. Just not sure if the Diesel and Mamba are big enough.

Primary or Secondary stability? The Fluid Solo has the best secondary stability that I've seen, but feels tippy. The Remix has good primary and secondary stability, and based on what you want to do, would be a great boat for you. The Diesels are being re-designed for this year, and the sizes are now going to be 60, 70, and 80. The 60 is a kid's boat, and the 70 is like the 65 and the 80 is like the 75, in terms of weight range. The sizes are similar to the Liquid Logic Trigger, Li'l Joe, Hoss series.

You may also want to check out the Jackson Hero and the Bliss-Stick Mini Mystic.

At your size, you might consider the small burn. I know several guys in your size range that love their small burns.

As for the choices you're considering, I've paddled a Diesel 65 for the last three years on 3/4 runs and recently got a medium Burn. The Diesel was an OK boat, but I never felt it was anything special. I love the Burn and feel it's a much better boat. It boofs easier, is faster, is much more responsive, has way better secondary stability and punches through holes much better. It is about the same when it comes to rolling. I'm also 5'9" but am 165. So, I think at your weight it might be a a better idea to get the small Burn. But regardless of size I highly recommend a Burn, especially when compared to a Diesel.

Just to be different!
I tried a (s) Burn and wasn't much impressed. Much preferred my diesel! I'm 5ft 9" and 130lb.
Both are good boats, both suitable for what you say you want, so if possible try both and see which one suits you better?

Tried a Mamba 7.5 at the weekend and really liked it. But with full winter gear on i would be within a few pounds of the top of the weight range. Does this matter much?

I would say yes, that is does matter. When creeking yu want as much volume as you can without becomming a cork. You also have to factor in extra gear, IE. spare paddle, throw bag, safety stuff, winter clothing etc...

I would demo the next size up if you can.
