PeakUK feedback please 15 years 11 months ago #26166

I'm thinking of getting a drytop(deluxe long hd) from them as well as a neoskin shirt. Their prices seem to be right, I just don't know anything about the quality. Thanks slot guys.

I have the Semi-Long, which is completely different, but the only problem that I have had is the waist closure, which has a drawstring (Advertised as a double-tunnel system) that keeps breaking, even without use. I went ahead and got a Level Six Knight instead, but for several reasons. The PeakUK jackets are basically stripped-down jackets, since they have no accessories, like pockets (except the Creek, which has the motocross pads). You may want to also look at the Kokatat Helix and Level Six Duke, which are both around $200, but I would take either over the PeakUK any day. The one thing that I was unsure about on the jacket you are looking at is that the velcro on the waist seems extremely small, compared to companies like Kokatat, NRS, IR, and any other company except Level Six, who has 2 webbing adjustment pieces. Also, I emailed several times, but never got a response. Either way, I bought another top, and my dad now has a top that should be good for rafting.

alright I will look into those tops. Does anyone have experience with Peak UK's shirts made of neoprene? those around quite cheap pas well and I thought maybe it would be a good shirt for the money. Does anyone know anything about the Extrasport drytop, it's also around $200?

The Extrasports are comfortable, but the X-Pert Flex Plus, which is their all-latex drytop, is I think $285. Also, IR has their Thin Skins for $18, and you might want to look into the NRS Hydrosilk/Hydroskin as well.

NRS also has some stuff on clearance.

Well I guess I will go with the Extrasport. How easily does the cord break on the PeakUK? Can it not be replaced with something else in it's place? I found the Extrasport for $199, and that's about all I want to spend on a drytop. I'm in college, so funds are tight. Took out a student loan to get outta credit card debt and the rest went to my new 4fun.

The cord is an elastic drawstring, with a plastic piece like a gate on the end. It clamps down on the loose ends. The problem was that this piece kept falling off, and I am afraid that I might lose it on a river, and have an extremely loose waist. I still think that you are better off with a Kokatat Helix, though, since it is the same as their $400 Rogue, but has Tropos material instead of Gore-Tex. www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.asp?pfid=2265&deptid=1172

Check and see which model the Extrasport is first. The X-Treme Armor is all-neoprene gaskets with armpit zips, the X-Pert Flex has a neoprene neck and latex wrists, and the X-Pert Flex Plus has latex wrist and neck gaskets.

The Extrasports are good, but I would prefer Kokatat, just because of the reputation for long-lasting gaskets and durable products in general.

I have a peak du lux dry top and it has been great. It has velcro on the waist no elastic draw cord in sight. Lots of play boating and class v creeking and it has been great. No complaints at all

So has the elastic draw cord been redesigned since cjcc bought his? I really like the overall appearance of the top and it seems to be made of good materials. The price is great, I just need enough good feedback in order to get one. So far it's 50/50. Does anyone else have good or bad feedback on this top? Thanks

Sorry for the confusion, but I got a different top than the Deluxe Long HD. However, the "cut" was great, and the fabric was OK, compared to my Level Six top. I would have gotten the Deluxe Long HD, but I was skeptical of the velcro on the waist, primarily its durability and how well it would tighten before it would slip.

Re:PeakUK feedback please 15 years 11 months ago #26189

Ahh I see, thanks for clearing that up for me. Well how does the inner tunnel tighten up? Is there some sort of zip cord that tightens down like the rest of the dry tops? And I do see what you are talking about with the outer tunnel. The velcro is quite small, but I guess if it's strong enough it will hold just fine.

I think that it is the same as the Level Six, which is similar to a tow tether, where it has a webbing material on the outside with elastic on the inside. It should still be fine though.

I just got it, it fits perfect, except the gaskets need some trimming. They're super tight around the neck and a little too tight around the wrists. I will probably try it out on wednesday, but it may be too hot. I'll let you guys know.

Re:PeakUK feedback please 15 years 11 months ago #26317

So I went out today on a local run. The top did fantastic. I wore an nrs short sleeved neoprene shirt underneath it. As said earlier, the gaskets are super tight. The instructions said that they were designed to be trimmed although I would avoid it and just use something the size of your neck to stretch it out over night. A buddy of mine said to get a coffee can and some baby powder to do it. I trimmed mine. And the neck is still too tight. I have around a 16" neck btw. Anyway it kept me dry and the webbing around the gaskets for drainage did awesome. Especially since I swam 4 times today!! I am a new boater. Materials seem to be awesome. I'll keep you informed on how well if holds up.

Did you have any problems with the velcro on the waist slipping?

Re:PeakUK feedback please 15 years 11 months ago #26323

no, like you said it is small, but holds well. i had no problems with it slipping at the waist neck or wrists for that matter.
