661 race pads are pretty good, although i have a set of cheap brand-x ones that do the same job really, though I dont think they'll last as long as the 661's. A mate of mine has a set of Dainese ones that he rates pretty highly too.

SixSixOne 4x4's for sure. Have had this pair for 3 years, great coverage, still stay in place and best of all, don't smell! Proally use them 100 times a year.

My Thors are still serving me alright. But I'd probably not buy them again. The 661's look cool....

JC, let me know what you get, and how that works out for you. Thanks :)

Shot! B) Yeah, mine are also too stretchy now and don't fit as snug as they used to. I find I have to pull them so far the velcro doesn't have much left to bite on. I guess the designers didn't intend them to be used in water all the time.... hehehe

Hey JC, they are the 2x4. Sorry, my mistake. They really do rock!

Has anyone tried the Shred Ready Tsunami or IR Swellbo? Also, here's some Level Six ones that I just found that are expensive, but look nice.

I really prefer the ones that have sleeves like the Swellbos, but I have to use a L/XL to make it fit on my arm, and I don't have very big arms. The sleeve ends up covering my wrist to shoulder, but I don't know if that is how they are designed. The sleeved designs just fit better, and can't come loose like the velcro ones.

Ive tried on various ww specific pads...owned some 661 sleeves that were ok, but ill never buy them again. Why pay that when these work fine. There is no velcro to come loose.

Re:favorite elbow pads 15 years 11 months ago #26331

Do you guys wear the pads under your drytops, or over them? I was wondering whether it was possible to wear a sleeved or semi-sleeved design (like the 661s) over a top, to protect it as well as my arms...

I wear them on the outside. This not only protects my arm but does the drysuit! Also seems there is always that long flat water section out.... nice to be able to take them off if you want.

EVS elbow pads are the best bang for your buck, it wasn't available when i baught my fox

my next pair will surelly be EVS and wear it outside the drytop, to protect it.

also, i used a lot of my elbow to stop me on rocks so my two hands stay on the paddle

hmm 661 or evs?...

My main issue is the coverage on the inside of the elbow....ya know the part of your elbow that touches your torso if your arms are hanging to your sides?

Happens when you gotta bust a beck deck roll and expose your inside arm to the river bed. Anybody able to vouch as to what model has the better coverage?

Thanks all!

661's cover the "funny bone" but if your creeking with a back deck roll you better buy a face mask instead!

Just bought the 661 race pads (2008 spec - white). They seem pretty rugged, don't slip down on my drytop. The only bad thing is the colour :/ but hey, can't have everything.
