The very generous guys at VIO in Marquette, MI USA were kind enough to get me the new POV 1.5 I took it to Homestake to scout out the action before the Teva games. These cameras are amazing and it took nothing to figure out how to use it.

I don't wish to sound negative, but it looks a bit milky... Why is that? Almost like water inside the lens...

I'm thinking of getting one of these:

I saw a video posted by someone on the same run that you did there with this camera, looked really good! :) Good looking run that BTW!

Yeah I totally understand and I almost didn't throw this up because of the milkyness. It was milky because i put the lens cap on and left it in my truck over night while it was still wet. It was my first time playing with the camera. As long as you let it dry after use it won't do that. The VIO is a much better choice for a camera. The tag feature is amazing... All you do is turn it on and when something exciting happens you tag it on your remote and it records that clip rather than having huge amounts of video to edit. A lot more versitile and much smaller on your head. I'll be sure to add new footage soon to redeem this poor quality one. Hope this helps

Ah, looks good! The only problem is the price tag. I just spent a lot of cash on a waterproof housing for my digital SLR (for surf kayaking/bodyboarding shots) so 650 US $'s would hit the pocket too hard... :) It looks damn good though.

If anyone is interested, here is the link:

Thanks Ross! :) I'll keep dreaming for that one... ;)

Does anybody know where I could get one in Canada, preferably near Toronto?

Or would my best option be to buy one online?

I really want a helmet cam, especially because I am taking a film and video course that next year, and want to get some good kayaking footage for it. Anyone have insight as to whether the GoPro or the POV is better? I personally think the POV's look cooler, but are also way more expensive, but as far as quality goes anyone have a preference?

I'm sorry, but the Go Pro Hero WIDE is an all around better camera than the VIO. it's got a 150 degree viewing angle (vs 110 degrees on the VIO), is self contained, smaller than your hand, and costs $200 as opposed to $650.

The only leg up VIO has is the resolution, maybe some think that's worth it, I don't.

The Go Pro does have a lower price than the POV 1.5, but the quality of the image is significantly less. The sound is almost non-existent, and there are no ways to control much of the input on the Go Pro. While it is true that the widest field of view on the POV 1.5 is 110°, the Go Pro videos distort the image to a point where it becomes hard to tell the true size of the objects you are viewing. Also the Go Pro does not offer any screen with which to view your recordings/live video, and it significantly slower to deal with light changes.

I have used a variety of helmet cameras in several aspects, and I have thus far found the Go Pro not suitable for several needs.
