Sam Sutton and Jared Meehan win Team Extreme Kayak World Championship in Italy

Kiwi victory: Together with their fellow countryman Mike Dawson, adidas Sickline team members Jared Meehan and Sam Sutton won the Team Extreme Kayak World Championship at the 2009 Teva Extreme Outdoor Games in Italy last weekend.

In order to win the national team challenge, the three Kiwis had to do well in a sprint race on Chiusella River and in a slalom race in Ivrea. Dawson, Sutton and Meehan ended with a 15-second margin over the team from France after their times in the slalom and downriver races were combined. Slovenia's gun team were third while hosts Italy could only manage fourth.

“It’s a pretty amazing feeling to stand on the podium on the number one position and receive your medal. It made me eager to do more racing”, said Jared Meehan. “The 6-minute long downriver race was truly my highlight of the weekend. It was an amazing course, really good whitewater. It was so much fun paddling that river together.”

Extreme Kayak Vice World Champion Sam Sutton can now also boast the title Team World Champion.
