Best choice for me? 15 years 9 months ago #27205

Alright here is the question in need some input for. Im looking at getting a new kayak, but i want something that can do intermediate whitewater while still tracking good on open water if i ever wanted to use it for a lake for some camping or something. Ive been looking at some that are labeled as a "cross-over" and been reading some reviews on them. The two that ive been really looking at are the Liquidlogic Remix XP10 and the Jackson All-Water 10. Im a big guy 6'4" 190lbs just looking for kinda a all-round kayak, if they really is one? Any help on making or breaking it between the to listed or another option thats out there. Let me know and thanks in advance.

I don't know about either boat but I am familiar with Jackson boats and their outfitting is pretty good. Having a drop down skeg will really help with tracking. If you have a chance to demo either boat that could help you make your choice.

We demoed the Pyranha Fusion, which is the most whitewater-specific hybrid out there, imo. There were a few little problems, like the lack of a center bow pillar, drain plug, and the cockpit rim wasn't very aggressive, but it is the only hybrid boat with a full foam footrest, which is the same as all of the other Pyranha creekboats. They're all good boats (Allwater, Fusion, Remix XP), but the Allwater felt more rec-oriented, the Fusion was more whitewater-oriented, and the Remix XP is in the middle. The Fusion is like a bigger Karnali, the Remix XP is basically a bigger Remix, but the Allwater doesn't seem to be built off of another Jackson whitewater boat platform. Here's something that you may want to look at: nocoutfitterstore.blogspot.com/2009/04/g...w-hybrid-kayaks.html

Also, some of the LL guys took the Remix XP to the Grand Canyon, some Pyranha guys have taken the Fusion off some decent-sized waterfalls, but I have yet to see anything on the Allwater other than the occasional ripple on a river.

Or, if you decide that you want a whitewater-specific boat with a hatch, check out the Fluid Solo Expedition, as well as Dragorossi's creekboats.
