Does anyone know if you can paint a kayak?

I know that the chemicals in some paints are probably not good for the plastic just wondered if anyone knows of any that are safe to use?

Here's a pretty cool paint job: www.jacksonkayak.com/articles/article.cf...05&article=200602071

If you paint it, it will wear off unless it is mixed with the plastic, which would be nearly impossible.

that is pretty cool. I wonder wether the boat was actually used on the water after that?

Would be interested to know what paint was used and how to get it.

The reason i asked the question is because i have a mate whos a graffiti artist and he wants me to let him loose on what will be my brand new boat. I have absolute faith that he wont f**k it up but i dont want to be paddling away and find my boat disintegrating under me. And of course ill be polluting the water.

Check this thread too:

Personally, I wouldn't do it.... If you want to get a cool custom paint job, get a composite boat and go all the way!

thanks for that people

Ive read the links and i didnt realise there was already a thread on this. It probably isnt a good idea after all is it?! no one seems to be raving how there paint job has stood the test of time.

I think ill probably buy my friend a piece of canvass and get him to do something for my wall.

cheers fellas

You should look into a vinal wrap, I've only ever seen it done on cars (taxis, race cars etc) but some of them have plastic bumpers.

AFAIK, the vinal is heated as its put on so I dunno if its a great idea... but if your serious about getting it done it would be a pretty cool thing to done. Easy to change too :)
