Hey guys, here is the deal. I cannot figure out the timing of the weight forwards and throw backs once I jump out of the water. Here is a video of what I'm doing now. I'm not sure if I'm jumping high enough, or maybe I don't need to jump straight up at all. When I jump, I'm jumping straight into the air after I feel the boat start heading up. From there I'm lost. I know I'm supposed to throw my weight forward, and then throw my weight back to connect the stern. I'm just lost at when to do all of this.
Thanks for everyones help with this. I really want to finish this move off.  |

Nope, I can't stick it in a hole either. I was hoping the flatwater loop will help me learn to stick it in a hole too. If I was to judge myself watching that video, I'd say that I need to throw myself forward sooner. Truthfully, when I do throw myself forward, it feels too late, and simply no time to respond to throwing myself back to put the stern back down. It all happens so fast!!

When you tuck forward, tuck right forward - you're only going into an upright sitting position. You definitely don't need to get as much height when you're doing the bobbing up and down part. For sure that's good, but not totally required.
By biggest tip, throw your legs away from you. Once you've bobbed right up, then throw your body right forward and concentrate on pushing your legs AWAY from your body. It's really quite easy once you concentrate on pushing your legs away. Sorry if my explanation sounds a bit dodgy, would be easier in real life to show you. Ahhh, gotcha! Your not jumping straight up in the air at all from the way the video looks. That is a good angled view of your loop too. I'll watch that a few times before I can get back out into my pool and try again. I'll see what I can do and follow up. Thanks for your help man!

Cool. You will definitely get it!!!! And if not right away, don't get angry, then the learning juices dry up. I always find with any sports, (especially stuff like kayaking and windsurfing) that short intense sessions on one particular thing works quite well.
The next video you post will be of you styling it. Your pop is so high that once you get it, it will be awesome! Have fun |

I think you are doing really well the jump(hands up) but in my opinion you have to do this things:
After your last bounce you have to reach up for a split second and Aggressively throwing your body all the way forward into a tucking position (Almost like kissing the deck). After that throw your body and paddle to the back deck to pull the stern through and flatten your bow back down again (and push with your heels down) and you will do it. Maybe my video may help you! |

I wanted to let you all know that I haven't given up, and I have no plans on giving up. I'm getting there. My last session I felt that I was getting the tuck forward part down. So far, this is what I've got. After pulling my boat under water for the jump, I wait until it gets pretty close to the top of my bounce. Then I jump to about 10:00 (or 2:00 which ever way your "clock" is facing) and a split second later I tuck HARD forward. My very last attempt actually felt really good, you know, like when you just "know" that was the way it was supposed to work. If I can keep that rhythm going, and work on my leaning back to get the stern to go down, then I'll have this working pretty soon. For me, it seems to be all about timing the jumps and tucks. Thank you guys for those videos, and I'll post one of me looping as soon as I get them going!

Here is a video of me right now. I only get to practice about once or twice a week, usually about an hour at a time. Any longer than that, and it's just a waist of time. As AdrianTregoning said above, the learning juices just stop flowing after a while. I have some ideas when I go back out. I've been thinking of it as three seperate steps, with a pause between each step. From watching others, it's one fluid motion with your body. No stops, just do it. Maybe like doing the same thing without a kayak. Similar to an action movie, when they jump behind something to take cover. Maybe I'll focus more on one solid move now, instead of three seperate moves.

Push your legs away from you after you've thrown yourself forward, then you will do it easily. I can see you're on the right path! That's the only thing you need to do, just push your legs away

Haha! Yup, sounds really easy.
I don't know what my problem is, everybody can do this simple trick! Haha! All jokes aside, I will really focus on pushing my legs over too. That is what I need to push my stern down into the water. Every time I watch myself in my videos, I keep seeing my stern not going down now. I'll work on it this weekend some more. I really want this move so I can stick it the next time I hit up a river with enough water to pull this off in a rapid! |

Maybe this will work. Instead of thinking that you want to push your legs away, maybe think that from tucking right forward, you want to lean back as quickly and as far back as possible straight afterwards. This will obviously do the job but it's mentally a different angle to attack the same problem

Thank man! Actually, I almost forgot about this post. I'm getting my loops on and off now, but not consistently enough to get a good video of one yet. I have to really focus on jumping up with the paddle over my head and then throwing my legs over, like doing the same thing without a kayak. I'm mostly coming up on one side now, but I'm getting to where I can finally feel when I come up on one side and when I actually pull it off. I'll get some more videos up as soon as I can. Now I need to find a hole or wave near by where I can practice some of this in some real water now.
