Hi :)
I recently got a drysuit secondhand for free. It needs all the seals replaced and before i do this i want to know is it suitable for kayaking?

It is a sailing drysuit but i don't know if there is any difference apart from a spraydeck tunnel to kayaking drysuits.

Can somebody help me out before i splash the cash?

Thanks
Saz

What's the brand, fabric, age etc...

New gaskets won't do much good if it has tons of holes. Friend bought a used Stohlquest that needed gaskets. Sent it in to the factory and was told there were over 100 holes when they water tested it. Basically junk.

The make is Gul. Not sur what the fabric is made of doesnt have a tag to tell you. Its about 3 or 4 years old and had a decent bit of use but it was only ever used for dinghy sailing.

The person who gave it to me told me that they think theres a hole in it somewhere and there not sure where.

Whats the best way to check for holes?

I would take a faucet and run water over the fabric with one hand on the bottom supporting it. Feel for moisture, not temperature. If you wanted, you could email Palm or PeakUK and see how much it would cost to test the waterproofing on the fabric, and if it is only one spot, see if you could have them patch it and replace the gaskets.

Sounds like a can of worms for aq suit that doesn't have a tunnel and might not be a laminate. If properly testing for holes they usually have to have gaskets and then put some pressure to them. Stohlquist wanted to charge for gaskets install on the suit with 100 holes. They should have explained this in advanced as my friend would not have taken the chanced.
Did you check a website for "GUL"?
