Paddles 15 years 4 months ago #28545

Hi guys
Need a new Paddle predominantly for white water stuff.
Needs to have good sturdy blades and of a reasonable price.
Any suggestions?

Werner and AT make really nice paddles. Good quality and performance. Not the cheapest brands though. But I recommend not to go for the cheapest one. A good paddle is in my opinion the most important piece of gear.

As above werner have got to be the most popular paddles. they do a blade for everything. AT are also popular, i have a set of AT2's and i like them, but i know ppl who dont.

Its swings and roundabouts to be honest, i could tell you the difference between a set of werner players and a set of werner powerhouses. Apart from the shape of the blade. I personally either like the feel of them or i dont. i mean on the water, i dont just mean how it feels in the shop. some people like a big face so they can get the power and others like a smaller blade for control etc etc.

My AT's are not the lightest but there certainly not heavy by any means, i used to have a set of schlegal's and they were light i remember but i recently picked up a pair and there miles heavier than the AT's.

Bent, straight, cranked its personal preferance, the size is fairly important. i think the way to get the correct length is to measure between your chin and the floor? i may be wrong. But saying that i just bought a pair i liked. :) lol

Id recommend AT but you cant argue with the fact that wernwr are so popular there are also sssooooo many other manufacturers.

lendal, kinetic, schlegal, robson, mitchell, H2O the list is endless.

Have fun because it is a difficult choice.

Hello

Ginga, i've just bought a sidekick from Werner, and my doubt was also between Werner and AT.

I went for the Sidekick, because i'm a "big" guy and when i paddle with small blades, they doesn't hold the pull and it goes swinging through the stroke.

And the sidekick have a huge blade. I have tried before the AT, but like i've said, the blade was to small for me.

I just didn't understand how is that way of choosing the size, i chose mine after measuring the distance between my hands when i make 90º with my arms, plus, how large is my boat, so my hands won't hit the sides. I really didn't knew that there was other ways to measure that.

Thanks

Depends on what type of boating you're mostly doing - playing/creeking etc.

I've got an H20-2 and H20-Team which I'm very happy with and have served me well since June 2007 as well as a Werner Double Diamond and Werner Powerhouse, both in carbon, both neutral bent shafts. Zero complaints. AT make excellent paddles too although I've never owned one. If you can, try to paddle a few different paddles and see what you like. Everyone is different. As far as quality goes, those 3 brands are definitely great! Although I've had water inside my H20-Team twice already - that's just a production issue which would depend on who's assembling... Otherwise no worries.

Hello...

Adrian, where do you use your Double Diamond? Creek? Playboating?

Double Diamond -> play boating/surf kayaking only  But I have paddled with 2 different people who creeked with them though. I personally find the blade too small for that, but everyone is different :P

Weird that the they're plain black though, they should call them something else, as the one side isn't silver like when they made them a while back.
