First boat 15 years 4 months ago #28691

Hi,

Looking for advice regarding getting my first boat, been paddling just over a year and achieved 2 star level, using club boats at the moment, Hoss, and really enjoy it, but now looking to get my own boat, would like something that handles like the Hoss, but faster... looking to Dagger GTX, any advice.

Paddllng on the Thames and will do most of the time, but would like to now be a bit more adventurous and get into whitewater upto grade III maybe IV.

5'11... 84kg

Adrian

Brilliant article, well written... filled in all the gaps, think I'll go for the River Running/Creek style, seems to fit my remit... all thats left now is to decide on which one, budget of £400, any further advice more than appreciated.

Many thanks

Cool, thanks!

What are your options in that price range? Second hand WaveSport Diesel perhaps?

I would think that you could negotiate with a dealer and get the 08/09 Solo for about that much. I could get the exped. solo in the US right now for 650ish, which should be about 400 pounds.

 funny you should say that... just been pricing a Diesel 75, seems to tick all the right boxes, and going by some of the reviews I've read, it seems to have a good rep...

Never thought about a Solo... well thats given me food for thought... and I'm guessing the Solo is comparable with the Wavesport Diesel 75, I know a few paddlers not to far away that are keen on fluids ;) ....

Thanks for your guidance...

I've been paddling a Solo (and several other Fluid boats) since 2007. Still super happy :)

See if you can try before you buy. Get what works for you ;)

Good advice, but would never buy without trying, One mans meat is anothers poison... etc.

And Adrian, many thanks, you've been really helpful, as others have here, nice to know folk willing to help...:)

Just an update, decided to go for the new Wavesport D75...

Was either that or Dagger GTX, and although the fitting is probably better on the GTX... sitting in both, I felt more at home in the Diesel instantly, and I think I can use the extra volume the Diesel offers.

Many thanks for you help

Martin

The Diesel is a pretty good design, I think you'll have many happy days on the river in that boat :) Yeah, some boats are like that, they either feel right or they don't. Take it easy and have fun... :silly:

Got the boat home, right decision, right boat.... cant wait to get it on the water, test paddles one thing, but its always different once you actually spend time on the water... but like the saying goes, 'I'm as happy a pig in S***'......lol

Once again, bit thankyou!
