Striding Boat 15 years 3 months ago #28824

I was just wondering if anyone had any insight they would like to share. I am considering getting started in the wonderful world of striding this summer. I have tried to research but if you put striding/kayak into a search engine the only thing you get are the same two videos of Jeff Snyder doing it. While those videos are cool, the only thing info I can get is that he uses a modified Aire ducky.

So I have some ideas that I need some input on.

1. Get an inflatable one person and put in straps or water ski bindings ala Jeff Snyder but that seems cumbersome.

2. Get a sit on top and modify it with straps. I like this due to the fact that I can still sit down on the slower portions of the river.

3. Get a Bare dive kayak and . . . you get the rest. Also still has a seat for resting. Don't know how well it would fare in whitewater though.

4. Make my own friggin' boat with footholds made into it (the least likely of choices).

When I start this endeavor, I will be using it on the Nantahala (NC) and the Cartecay (GA) and won't encounter anything heavier than class 3s. Hopefully, I will get better and more confident and start striding class 5s like Jeff (far, far into the future)

So what do ya' think. There has to be something besides a ducky that will run a river and keep me on my feet.

*Also, have seen some people using SUPs but again that seems cumbersome and scary and . . . just no.
