Spray Skirt Question 15 years 2 months ago #29066

Today I bought a Harmony Spray Skirt. According to the tag, the size should be ok for my kayak. (by at least 2-3 inches each way) I brought it home and tried to put it on the kayak. I tried for 10 minutes and could not get it to snap into place. I tried standing over the kayak and tried starting at the front and working it toward the back and then back to front. The skirt would not stay in the groove as I worked it around. It seemed that the elastic cord was too large in diameter to fit into the groove for it. Could this be possible? The kayak is a Pelican Potomac from Dicks Sporting Goods. I know this is low end, and you get what you pay for. Right now there is no way (as far as I can tell) it will work. Unless someone on here has any advice or better options, my plan is to return this skirt and order on on-line from pelican direct. SO, I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks!

That is probably your only solution. It sounds like you are doing everything you should to get it on but it's just not the right size. A 2-3 inch swing has me suspicious as well---spray skirts should not have that much leeway; they snap over the rim tight and most easily when you are sitting in the kayak. Most rec boats from companies like pelican are not what spray skirt companies had in mind with their cockpit size chart. Take it back and get a pelican as long as they state it is made for your particular kayak.

I recommend contacting Seals Sprayskirts www.sealsskirts.com
They have a sizing chart on their page. And they will make custom sizes, if a normal one won't work on your kayak.
