1st time new gear advice ,PFD, Paddle, Skirt 15 years 2 months ago #29139

I'm just getting in the sport (whitewater) play and riverrunning. and I realize how important the right equipment is. I was looking for advice or personal reviews on the following:

Astral Willis PFD

Werner Desperado PAddle

Seal Skirt

I can't really afford to make a bad choice so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I have no experience with Astral, but I hear they are really good.

Werner paddles are great. I haven't tried the desperado, but should be good value for the money. I have paddled a player and a powerhouse. Both very durable. Just waiting for my new Werner Shogun.

I've been using Seals-sprayskirts for 6 months now, and they are really good. Especially the Surf and Shocker are really good value for your money. And I like the sizing-system. It's a great system to get the right sprayskirt for your boat.

I've had an Astral Aquavest 300 since June 2007 and have been very happy - quality product. About to replace it though, quite possibly with another brand.

I've got a Werner Powerhouse and a Double Diamond, both are super duper. Werner makes really fantastic paddles! A couple of my friends have the Desperado, they are very happy. I've tried it out between rapids just to feel it out and for the money you pay you're definitely getting a good deal, I think. Well worth it for someone that doesn't want to break the bank but still get a quality stick. I think it's pretty good.

Never tried a Seal skirt but have never heard anything bad about them. Only good things. They definitely look good! :P

;) Used Astral for some time and really like them - i use a rescue vest which is great but the profile of PDFs differ so have a good look in the shop and be comfortable - over the head Vs middle or side zipper, pockets and easy access are all individual preferences you have to look into.
