I don't use a top deck but I have heard that they are really good for playboating. Although I've also heard
that they're dangerous for river running beacuse if you get pinned, for example by a tree, & something
pierces your spraydeck then there is no chance that you can escape, but with a normal spraydeck you could
just wriggle out. Anyway, going on what I have hear from others, topdecks are good for playbpoating but
bad for river running/creeking.

A top deck is a waterproof cag combined with a spraydeck so that you can have one of the best seals possible and stay as dry as possible. There are advantages and disadvantages ot them. Another thing is that there very expensive.

i think the americans call them dry decks or at least Ken Whiting does! they give you greater freedom of movement but eventualy water seeps throught the neoprene well my friends does any way check out Peak UK or Reeds both really nice with very dry decent deck not the over complicated way to many seam like PAlms which just leak like FCUK after a few weeks their cags are nice but there decks are over priced and my sieve gives a drier seal!

I use the deck-cag combination most of the time boating as it keeps the most water out of your boat and your cag ("spraytop" for the americans). It doesn't make so much difference if you have a leaky boat or if you swim lots! I use the PeakUK ones and like them a lot. The only time I don't use it is for creeking but then my creekboat has a different size deck anyway.

Downside is that if you change your make of boat often then you may have to get a new one, but I don't see that they cost anymore than a deck and a good drytop.
