I have never paddled the Burn before but the Solo will be a your best choice. It is one of the best kayaks around voted by Europe paddlers.

Thanks Jan for your feedback!
I consider these boats two beautifull models but I'm trying to understand and compare the performance.
For example someone said that Solo is slow due to his big tail and difficult manoeuvrability on big rivers but I'm not agree...

I don't want talk bad of one or other kayak but understand the feeling of the community about best performance in all the conditions.
It seems no one wish talk to much about this ..
I'm close to buy a kayak and know any experience could help.
Bye

I have never paddled the Burn, but have paddled the large Solo a lot since 2007 and been very happy. The Burn has a nice flat hull which is more in line with Fluid's new boat, the Detox. The flat hull (of the Burn and Detox) will perform better on big volume rivers than something like the Solo and will make moving about on the river that little bit better. The Solo is extremely maneuverable on creeks though and it's really not slow at all.

From what I hear, and by my own judgements, the Burn is a very good design. But I'd go with the Fluid ;) Either the Detox or the Solo, depending what your end goal or preference is. Yes, I'm sponsored by Fluid and yes you may think I'm biased but their quality is really high, the designs excellent and their customer service really good. Ask around. :)

My advice, paddle them both if possible. Then decide for yourself. You probably can't go wrong with either of them.

I agree with adrian, try and test them both and then choose, what you want to paddle with the kayak is also a big influence.

I have not paddled the 2010 Burn (new model has changes in the rail and volume) but have paddled the previous model and I have also paddled medium Solo's a lot.

The Solo is by far not a slow boat, the main reason why some paddlers might feel that the Solo is slower is that a medium solo is still shorter than a small Burn, length is one of the key factors that influence speed.
The "big tail" of the Solo is there for a reason, it helps the kayak get out of sticky places. a slightly lower volume tail(burn) will make it easier for a kayak to get backlooped in a feature, the high colume tail of the Solo is there so that instead of the tail just getting submerged and you falling over backwards, the volume in the tail wants to resurface so often the pressure from the feature will not be able to push it down so instead it pushes you out. (correct body position here al;so plays a big role in what happens).

The rocker profile of the 2 kayaks are also different, both have similar rocker in the bow but the stern of the Burn has a bit more than the Solo so 2 a Burn and Solo of similar length the Solo should in theory be a little faster.

The hulls are also different, Solo has a full displacement hull and the Burn has a slighlty flatter hull with harder edges/rails.

The Solo being slightly shorter makes it easier to control for the not so large but it needs good paddle technique to really make it come to life.

Also if you want to run waterfalls then I would say go for the Solo as the hull design in the Solo is much more forgiving when boofing big drops a\or accidentily landing flat.

If you want a kayak that you can use the edges to carve in and out of places then I would say the Burn or the Fluid Detox.

Hope this helps

I had a medium Burn for 5 months until the thigh pads ripped off and the hull began to bulge. That said it was the best handling creeker I've paddled. Fast, boofs very well, carves, tracks but also spins when you want to correct on a line. I've missed it.

I've had a Large Solo for the last 2 seasons. It also handles well, a nice balance of tracking while being able to spin/correct at will (a prioroty for me). Like the Burn its semi-planing hull has great initial stability while being well balanced on edge. It's very stable, almost like cheating. However, it's weight is a serious consideration. Don't believe the stats, pick it up and lift it over your head, especially with a little gear. Every single time anyone else picks up my boats they comment on how heavy it is (without exception). In the water I believe this slows the boat's initial acceleration. I think it also effects it's ability to boof, making it difficult to disengage the stern from the lip of a drop (could also be combo of length and user error). Both boats resurface very well. Some say the Burn breaks easily however, I've broken 2 Solos.

If you're looking at this style creeker, I would also look at the Riot Magnum and the new Prijon Pure. Both are semi-planing with raised chines and a lot of upside. I fall between the 2 Magnum sizes, but the smaller one was the best boofing demo I've tried. It also had a great balance, tracking and spinability. I'm hearing really good things about the new Pure and look forward to demoing (if the local ever gets a damn demo!). The new Villain also looks worth demoing and just may be my next boat.

Good Luck!

If it feels sluggish, move back the seat. I have had it a notch back from center before and all the way forwards, and it seems to plow more than glide when too far forwards. I was able to get it up to speed with my hands when it was closer to the back. Get in your normal position and have someone check the trim of the boat. It accelerates really fast for me and I am in the small at almost 160 pounds. The Remix 59 feels way faster and easier to paddle though, but I didn't like how pointy the ends were and liked the safety features on the Solo.

Thank all of you again for your detailed advices!!
Today I've finally decided to take the new boat ...SOLO :woohoo:
I had not so many occasions to test it (just one) but my first impression was very good!
Unfortunately the only Italy dealer of Fluid is far from the north where I live so was difficult to take opportunity to test a compare boats as I wished for the choice.
Now I've alredy ordered the boat and I hope the dealer will deliver the boat in time as promised ...half june!
...Adrian .... please press the production to deliver to Italy in time!!
I'll let you know about my future experiences!!
Bye

Great stuff. I think you'll be very happy. :) Unfortunately I don't work for Fluid so I have no impact.. ;) Do me a favour, when you get your boat, weigh it on an accurate scale, I think you'll note the website to be accurate. Have fun!!!
