[b:909599d58e]Peak UK Whitewater Challenge 2006[/b:909599d58e]

The Challenge is by far the longest established whitewater series, now in it’s ninth successful year. The event combines playboating with river running skills and it caters for newcomer paddlers, world champions and everyone in between. The main focus is on fun and having a great weekend.

Here are the dates and details for this years events. The fun stays the same, but the format has changed to spice things up a bit and to attract a greater cross section of paddlers.

There will be parties, film shows, barbecues, demo boats, coaching and plenty of free river time for casual paddling. Come along, bring your friends, whatever level they are and join in the fun.

Peak Challenge categories include mens, ladies and C1s and are split for great equipment prizes into three standards: Expert ( GB team, sponsored or sport class winners ) Sport ( the main class for everyone just into boating ) and Newcomer ( for paddlers in their first year of competition ).

This year’s challenge format features two main events. New for this year, the Giant Slalom Boater Cross and also the existing Freestyle event. National ranking lists will be made for both and combined.

[b:909599d58e]Giant Slalom Boater Cross[/b:909599d58e]: Paddlers race against the clock over a section of whitewater, negotiating six wide slalom gates as they go. Then the top 16 go through to a four at at time knockout quarter final, progressing on through semis then ultimately the final. Modern creek boats can be used is this section up to 250cm in length.

[b:909599d58e]Freestyle[/b:909599d58e]: Run to current ECA rules ( see www.ukfreestyle.com) for more info. All paddlers take two 45 second rides in a suitable play hole or wave. Both run scores are added and top performers progress through semis and on to exciting knockout finals. The Challenges being all about fun means not only great performances are rewarded. So come along, bring your mates and join the fun..
