i just wear normal glasses - and the only problem with fog is when you have been under the water previously, and up for a long time

its fine for playing since with so much imersion they dont have time to fog up

i never like to paddle with contacts, ive tried it before a few times but i normally end up losing at least one of them

Check out the following goggles: Aquasphere Seal XP goggles

see: stores.ebay.com/Visibility-Unlimited-Inc...rZQ2d1QQftidZ2QQtZkm

I bought them for my wife and my son for paddling and they are great.
This fit is good and the seal is excellent.

I'm going to make a couple of assumptions here - firstly that you wear soft disposible lenses, and secondly that you kayak mostly w/w ie freshwater.

Unless you are wearing daily disposible lenses (lenses that you throw out every day) I personally wouldn't generally advise that wearing cls kayaking as a great idea. Soft contact lenses take up whatever they are sitting in - if you sit them in cl cleaning sol'n, they take that up into the lens matrix. If you have the lenses sitting in water, they take that up too. If you're in the surf, or in a pool, the salt/chlorine tends to have an antimicrobial effect (kills bugs). If you are in freshwater, especially manky freshwater, the bugs can be pretty bad, and can basically use the tear proteins and mucous you have depositied on your lens to proliferate. THerefore, if you decide that wearing cls is the way to go, make sure you give them very good clean after you've gotten out.

As I see it, you've got a couple of options. Instead of getting a pair of goggles to wear over the top of your cls, why not get a pair of prescription goggles? A comany called Barz do a pretty good surfing model that I've put a few kayakers into - it has drainage holes so they are pretty good for fogging. Another option is just a pair of polarised prescription sunglasses - I always wear sunnies on the river and haven't found fogging a huge problem - try spitting on them before getting in (an oldy but a goody). You can also buy specialised anti fog sticks that you rub on the inside of your glasses (I've never bothered, but I've had good reports)

I hope that's helped in some way shape or form.

there is something new out, i don't know what it is like, but i should be a layer that makes a waterfilm on your glasses. You will see a very little bit less with it when they are wet, but still much more than with foggy glasses. I haven't seen them yet in use because i think they are still very expensive, but in a few years, it will be something i will try out

Toothpaste works pretty well to keep dive masks from fogging up, just rub it on dry and the wash it off. BTW, I opened my eyes once while rolling, and then saw the rock that hit me in the face, now I dont open my eyes anymore. And Arthur, dont apologize for your english.

One of my 3 Star award instructors had perscribed goggles with the lense already in it for her eyes. I don't know where she got them be I imagine she asked at her optitions. Also, I have a pair of Aquasphere Seal XP goggles, the ones that go over your whole face. THey're brilliant but I rarely use them unless in a pool where chlourine can really hurt and when I play.

I haven't seen anyone else wear goggles though, does anyone know why kayakers rarely use goggles?

I have been using Aquasphere Seal Goggles for he past couple years. I have one pair tinted and one clear. They tend to last about 50-75 days on the water. They retail for $30 but I have found them as cheap as $15 at walmart.

I am totally blind if I lose my contacts on the river, and glasses tend to be ripped off while in holes. The goggles rarely leak. Fogging occurs when you get the right temperature, but I usually pull them up on my head in the pools, and wipe them off before a rapid.

You rarely see much while under in a foam pile, but on occasion it is helpful to find which was is up, and I have seen a couple cool looking rocks.

daily disposable contact lenses all the way.

I find the goggles really really annoying and I just loose glases (even when using decent straps). I have never had a problem using Accuview daiyly disposable lenses.

I was reading an artical in my dads 'Triathlon 220' magazine last night that said wearing 'non disposible' contact lenses while in open water can interfere with the liquid between your eye and the liquid on the contact and at serious stages can cause blindness! They reccomend only using disposable contacts on the water and not the ones you clean daily.
I'll find the name of the condition later when my dad gets home from work.

Lets stick to goggles and continue to enjoy the sport.

Never use perminant or semi permanent lenses for kayaking, it is a really bad idea.

However my optition recomended daily desposables and pointed out that the lens collects any nasy bugs from the water (normally left sloshing about your eye but not causing a problem) which then get disposed of with your lens when you get out.

Hi.
The bug you are probably referring to is called Acanthamoeba. It's reasonably rare, but when you get it, it is sight devastating. Lives in fresh water, which is why you should never wash you contacts in water.

Daily disposibles are Definitely the way to go
