This is very sad news. Daniel passed away this morning after having been struck by a train yesterday. Some more details are available on the AW site:

I only knew Daniel from phone calls and e-mails, but our contacts have always been very friendly and constructive. Daniel certainly was an huge source of positive energy for the world's kayaking community.

I wish hist friends and family all the strength they need to live through this tragic loss.

I never met him personnaly, but had regular email contact with him ... I still remember last year, when he sent me the 7 Rivers Expedition DVD by express mail, before it was even out, just so I could show it at a party. The guy was so full of energy but with a sense of calmness that inspired many people.

I don't get it sometimes. Since I saw he had an accident, I kept on hoping that everything would come alright, but it didn't. Now all that is left of him, is the memories to him. Let's not ever forget those. He will be missed by the whole kayaking scene. He'll leave a gap for quite some time in our world. Whether you knew him or not.

So please people, whatever you do, be carefull. Accidents happen on places you least expect them. On and off the water!

We just lost a french paddler-friend (Marc Villebrun), now Daniel. Let's not loose somebody else in the coming season.

My condolences to anyone who knew him and especially to all his close friends and family!

Greetingz,
Krusty
