International guidebook project... help needed 19 years 6 days ago #5562

Fellow boaters

I’m currently involved in a project to create an international online guidebook for American and French rivers (hopefully more European countries to come soon). However due to the huge nature of this task we’re counting on contributions from fellow boaters.

Basically what we need is for people who know a section of river well to send us their personal guides in the format I have stated bellow. Ill upload these guides onto the page (which should go live by the end of the month) and the information will be there for everybody’s benefit. Ill obviously credit each person involved (and if that person happens to work for an organisation or a freelance coach etc we’ll happily stick an advert for your business on the guide you contributed)

If you know a river in another country well enough to fill out a guide for it we will also happily create a new page and database for that country. The hope is that people planning kayaking or canoeing holidays in your country will be facilitated with useful information to help them make informed decisions on which state/county to visit. We are also hoping this website will evolve as its user base grows.

Sounds good? Well we think so however it is entirely dependent on local knowledge so please email in your guides. I hope to hear from you soon.

State (some rivers obviously flow through 2 or more state if this is the case on your section of river please just indicate the state of the get-on)

The type of run it is, creek/big volume Playboating/touring/park and play

A description of how to get to the get-on

A description of how to get to the Egress

A rough grade (some rivers may have more than one grade depending on features)

A description of the river (try to be as informative as possible detailing information about the features of the river)

Approximate length

Major hazards

Any issues with access (privet land for example)

Your name and how you wish to be credited (name only/email address/website)

Any photos you have available of any of the river features…

Alternatively, feel free to send such information for publication on Playak. After all, river information is one the the very basic functions of Playak... We've been publishing such info since 1996...

To contribute:

:)

PS skinnyboater: I'm not sure how much the world needs another such online river database. We have Playak for global river info, American Whitewater with a focus on the US, lots of very good regional sites, and then many such sites in other languages, such as eauxvives.org in France, several German sites etc etc. I think your chances of creating a succesful site will be better if you start something with a very unique angle...
If you're happy, you're successful.
