should I get a star? 19 years 3 days ago #5590

Well, I recently posted that I was looking at buying a star. I have since bought it and it is my new favorite boat. I took it down the Lochsa ( Juicy class 4's) and it runs rivers like a dream! I would highly recommend it to anyone inthe intended user weight range. It is super stable, quick, turns on a dime, and packs enough punch to burl through sticky holes! I love it! Go out and buy one today!

I really like my star. I think it is a pretty sweet boat. Loops really well. But, the river running thing is a hard question to answer. Like all playboats the star is gonna be at a disadvantage in river running situations. I personaly run class IV+ in my star and find it ok.

i know a guy who nailed his first floop ever in an all star, they go pretty big.Riverunning, i ran the Rogue river in oregon( class three with a couple fours) with a guy in one and it worked pretty well, the lack of tail meant that he stern squirted some big waves, but othrer than that it seemd ok. nice boat.

Also, about the star. Got my first flatwater cartwheel today.. hehe. Nice boat, never really tried to cartwheel before cause I thought that it was a lame trick.

I am very interested in buying a Fun. i have been paddling an inazone for the last year and I was wondering how a Fun would compare to other river runner/ playboats out there. My main emphasis would be river running with some surf and a little bit of play. So basically i'm looking for an inazone replacement and I like the sound of the Jackson Kayak boats.
Any ideas?

I just bought the entire Fun series (ecept the 1 cause I ran out of cash) so I can teach this summer in our region.
1 word for the FUN series: SWEET!!!!
I use the 4FUN for myself and love it. It is easy to paddle dwon river, tracks well, and I can still throw it around on the waves.
It flatwater cartwheels well too. (Though I can only nil one complete cartwheel. Still can't link a bunch of them together. That is not the boats fault though. Just mine)
I put the happy seat and thruster in it and it is really comfortable too.
GREAT BOAT.

I've got a 2 fun and it's pretty fun! It's only 3 weeks old.
Advantages: It fits me!!! I'm not very big so it's really the first boat that I've found that I can carve really effectively with - I like that a lot
It's also really easy to roll
Oh, and it's really really light - my 2 fun only weighs like 13kgs which is awesome for walk ins, and for flying with.
Happy feet are the best thing ever!
Disadvantages - I'm not used to a small boat, and I find that I do end up being back looped and generally getting trashed more than in a longer boat, but I'm sure that will improve as I get more used to the boat (and more skillful).
The first time I got in it, I found it took quite a long time to get used to it - the first day I paddled it I found that the edges were a little unpredictable, but then, all of a sudden, it all came together and it felt really really solid.

All in all, I'm pretty happy - but that's my 2 cents worth anyhow.
steff
