Appreciate the comments re stretching.
What specific stretches whould you recommend to increase flexibility for folling and paddling in general?
I've seen the 'yoga for paddlers' video, but it doesn't seem to have them all...

Somach and legs and take your paddle in regular form and move it around and behind your back you will feel more streached out

stretching is dependent on when you do it . There is no point in static stretchin as part of a warm up ( static stretch - holding muscle in one stretched position). a warm should do exactly what it says on the tin, warm you up (dynamic stretching). Start with small movements and increase the range gradually until you reach maximum ( circling arms for example to warm up shoulder region). The warm up should increase blood flow to the muscles thereby preparing them for work. Static stretching should be used at the end of a session to lengthen muscles to prevent injury and to help re-correct your posture ( kayaking can tighten chest and shoulder muscles making you chair shaped).
Hope this helps

so r u saying you should go 4 a jog or a gentle paddle rather than doing all the P.E type stretches (static)

I like a jog before I go kayaking as I don't 'usually' agree with static muscle stretches. My local water get in point has a nice 150 meter path which I usually run up then back.

warming the body is key to begining ur paddleing, especialy if ur getting onto water that gets straight to the thick of it.

as for stretches, there are some that can be done in the boat to make/keep u loose. twisting to put the blade over the stern an in on the wrong side of ur boat, stretching forward to touch ur toes, shoulder exerciecs (often indevidual requirments due to previous injury).

all this will help if ur on a long paddle, coaching, or just gettin bak on after food
