I have heard that helmets with big bills (like the sweet strutter) can get stuck on rocks underwater and not only keep you under but probably break your neck. This seems like a pretty rare occurance, but I have heard of it, and the roomer had to start somewhere. Another thing is that helmets (sweet strutter and shaggy) without any vent holes in the top are annoying when you role in a hole because the water gets stuck in it and it pulls up on your neck like a parachute. On the other hand, this is all just hearsay, and I dont have any experience with either. One of my friends has the shaggy and it seems to be fine with him (he's the one who said it got sucked off his head) and EJ has the strutter, and it seems that if he had any complaints he could get a new one. If it where me I would go with the Shred Ready Phly. That helmet looks sweet.

Hey there,

If youcan get to a whitewaeter festival, you shoulddemo a few.
I borrowed my friends struuter and it is really nice.
Good fit, when adjusted right it does not shift but is a bit expensive.
Like the rest of your gear, go try a few if you can then decide for yourself

[color=cyan:38d1147db4]The HOG lock system works pretty schweet! I've got the the Shred Ready Full Mental Jacket. I'm not happy with the quality though. The helmet is lined with foam throughout in several different sections and is already coming off on one side. (I've used it about 3 times) The pads that you get to line the helmet for a better fit are attached using a velcro system. Some of the velcro tabs are double sided and attach to any piece. Others are one-sided and glued straight onto the pads already. This glue is not very efective and on some it is coming off already. The foam that lines the helmet is covered with a kind of fabric to which the velcro can stick to and this too is coming off on one side.

Other than that the helmet fits well and does not move on my head. Apart from the internal fittings problem, the helmet is well built and will take some abuse. Perhaps I just got unlucky with my purchase and got a dud. These things can happen... Both helmets are good. I've never heard anthing bad being said about the Strutter. I have read (Paddles - March '06) that the Sweet helmets are manufactured to the highest standards and do not compromse on quality. Tough choice between the two...

Just another note:
Some helmets are more expensive than others, this is true. It also seems to play a major deciding factor in the choice of which helmet to buy, but it shouldn't. [not perhaps in this case ;) ] Buy the best protection you can. What is your life worth to you? I'm using the sweet strutter for playboating as it is a great helmet. I also had concerns about the fixed rim affecting it's performance. However talking to guides on the nile I found out that they had less problems with the stutter than I did with my protec!! As it fits so close to your head there is no water to get in and suck it off your head. Also there is a optical lock in the back which is the same as the HOG on the shreads.

Some of my friends have shread ready helmets and are also very happy with them.

I wouldn't recommend creek boating with the strutter though as the amount of protection around your ears is marginal. For creeking the Rocker is a much better choice although it is a very warm helmet.

I also use a strutter and is the comfiest best fitting helmet i have found to date. I was informed by Goran from Sweet that the peak is designed to break away if you get it caught. I have used it all round europe and it hasnt been sucked off my head or moved backwards. Personally I prefer it to the Shred readys as it fits my head shape better and i have friends who prefer the shred ready for the same reason.
