i'm 5'8" and i use a 191cm paddle. For me thats a perfect length, short enough so less hang ups on the wave making moves easier and i find i don't get nearly as tired but long enough that balance and power don't become an issue.

Good lines

id say between 190 and 196 well por play boating, ask at the shop their are lots of options i think on werners sight they have a bit that helps you chose the perfect size by asking you stuff about your size

i just bought a paddle. im just over 6' and bought a 200. the difference between that and the 194 was very little. the boat shop told me 196 was probably best but they were out of those so go longer. i'll see im going out tomorrow. honestly, im still a newbie so go with the other guys on this.

to get the right size for your paddle you have to know what you are boating...

means playboating, the paddle should be short with stiffer blades

means creeking, the paddle should be longer with stiff blades

means river running, the paddle should be long with softer blades

why?

obviously in playboating you will need to rotate your blade fast...thus the shorter the better....

in creeking you need a big shovel to get speed immediatly with only few strokes

on the river there migh be longer stretches to go, you want more speed, thus a longer shaft with softer blades to be soft on your wrists is the way to go

all just humble opinions of my own...

i myself have build a shaft which is adjustable in the length...so i can use the same blades (which are big)...the length varies between 198 and 204 (i am 6'4")

Yeah adjustable blades are a good idea, especially if you do many different kinds of paddling

adjustable blades sound like their would be a lot of problems

changing the paddle size (length) isn't a big problem if you address it properly....

there are still blades (the cheap ones..;)..which are only conected to the shaft with a short piece of wood...obviously the torsion powers at work there easily tear it apart...even in normal water without rock contact or excessive force...(no companies named here..:)

the adjustable paddles will come out soon....if they are not on the market already (haven't looked for it yet)...

so i am not claiming a first..;)...but it is definately a choice idea for a paddle maker to have it in the program....as it is so much nicer to have a bit of a longer blade for the long paddle outs...or the short ones for the quick fun...

they do split paddles but lendals are nicer to use as they have no play in the shaft as they use an allen key thingy to tighten the bits together

Werner river paddles do not have the adjustble feather only there touring blades do which works well but they wont put it on a river paddle I have asked as they thought it would not be durable enough for white water paddling
