yer, im just wondering what else they do other than take strain off the wrists. If thats all they do then i probably wont bother but if they have other advantages then i'll see.
cheers

my advice is use a crank shaft for a day to see how you feel about them, im sure you can borrow one from someone, see how they feel for you, i swear by them as i have mild problems with my wrists

Are Cranks worth the extra money? YES!

After getting a set of Werner Cranks I will never go back to straight shafted paddles again. Just the fact that if you paddle anything like often after ten years of boating you will have a wrist problem even if you don't now, should make you think long and hard about still using a straight shaft.

The other plus points are that due to the cranks your hand position on the shaft is fixed in the right place and so your hands don't slide into the wrong place. Also due to your wrist being in a better position you can pull harder on the paddle (the reason why salalom boaters used them in the first place I think).

yep, the crancked paddles do make it possible to make a more powerfull stroke. Also important, with a crancked shaft the hand is behind the blade, this makes that your blade is moving more stable trough the water. (try imagining pushing your blade trough the water when your hand is in front of the blade!).

If doubt if any of this is of any importance for a playboater but besides the more powerfull stroke it just feels more natural (my opinion of course!)
hands are always on the right place and it's better for your wrists.

but... I guess the best way to convince yourself by trying one...

good luck deciding!
