I'm planning on oing on a trip to the artificial white water park in holme pierre point only problem is im going to see the rhcp's the next day and i hear a lot of ppl get ill paddling there because of the pollution in the water. Anyone paddled there and know a bit more about th lkelyness of me feeling ill after a trip there??

it is pretty bad there so i advise drinking a lot of coke (at least a litre) before you paddle there, that will combat anything that wants to try and make you ill, its a great place to paddle so dont be put off by the water quality

i went there yesterday and the course is brilliant, demod a crazy 88 6.1 and got completly owned on the muncher but had fun.
fingers crossed im gonna b fine as it was my first time on there. p.s. has anyone got advice for me as to getting on the top stopper (i kept catching a edge). |

well its been 48 hours and nothing so thats good
my advice is drink lots of cheap coke (apparently it kills the bacteria but dont hold me to that), and dont go swallowing it cos that never helps. have fun  |

the water there can be bad, although some people never seem to get sick (me for example
 ) but others spend hours in the bog the day after.the problem isnt so much the water any more as the trent is now much cleaner than in the past. however, the poisions are still in the allgea and concrete the site is made of. the course is closed and cleaned every so often which means that the problem gets slowly better every year. still the best idea is coke, antibiotics and one guy even says go for a hot curry to kill the bugs.  |

ive been paddling there for about 9 years and have been ill twice. i had typhiod and hepetitis(SP?) jabs when i was about 13/14 and they seem to have done the trick. a 500ml bottle of coke will do fine. none of this 3 litres malarky. i got told it has to be genuine cocacola not tesco's own.

i had bout 500ml before n after i went on the water. i used Asda smartprice and i could feel it cutting away at my teeth if nothing else, so thought that it must b doing the trick. i think the more acidic it is the better (but again not sure)

The water in the Tent is not that much more polluted than anywhere else in the UK but due to the power station just up stream the water there is heated which means that the bugs breed like crazy so that there is a abnormal high amount of bugs in the water. A few years ago they admitted that there was a porblem there and installed showers and hand washing points. Use the showers outside as soon as you get off the water to clean you and your kit and wash your hands before you touch any food!!!
The coke thing is a bit of a urban legend. |

yes, i would think the coke think is a bit dodgy, seen as there is already strong hydrochloric acid in your stomach anyway! best thing to to as said befor is to wash you hands as soon an you leave the water and try not to swallow any. Im going to see the chillies aswel soon, they are awsome!!

i decided to do it n e way because i have to do 8 gcses the week after so i was taking every precaution (except going on the water, and getting owned in the hole)
