Good question, i've got up to 3 star but coaches at my club say i'm above 4 star standard, just not done it yet,

I've also got my,
Canoe safety Test
8 hour aquatic Firts aid
Level 2 coach training (assessment in september)

Thats all!

Many people i paddle with are amazing paddlers (mainly playboaters and slalom) but have very few awards. Just enjoy their paddling and are very good at it!

yeah the star system is a real good way of getting people into paddling n gives you something to aim for

its all due to change over the next couple of years though, they are taking a couple of strokes out of the star tests (i.e. high brace sculling. putting more emphasis on low brace sculling for the shorter boats that everyone paddles now) and the coaching awards are being completely changed! they can't take anything off you that you already have though, just when you renew it will be different.

I have a WRT under my belt and I would say that was one of the best courses I ever did. When I did it I was a beginer so everything was new to me, there I learned a lot of different trix and also I learned to assess things, think and plan in new ways.

I also have some basic first aid, which didn´t help me that much.

How ignorant are some people?!

Did you just get in a boat and could cartwheel on the first attempt, roll without being tought or are you just forgetting that everybody has to start somewhere?

Level 1 & 2 coaches are the most important people out there, they are the people who get the youngsters out onto the water and introduce them to the sport, without these people there would be no future for kayaking and canoeing.

So next time think about what you are going to say before posting a reply.

Cheers and happy paddling you excellent natural paddler batman100.

the point i was making that was your qualifications are really irrelevant if you have little skill or enthusiasm for paddling,

as it happens ive got a three star, cst, trainee level two coach,

so why dont you just climbdown buddy, ok, im not saying its bad, im saying "its all good having a high IQ but useless if you've got no common sense"
you get me?

i think miller and some of us reading maybe thought your statement was a little blunt and perhaps unnecessarily aggressive. Im sure you didnt mean it this way .but be sure to take time to explain what you mean fully, because text rarely sounds how you want it to.

that said, i get you buddy , of course, talent is more important than awards. I have a paddler at my club who has no stars at all but is one of the best i know. however, getting a host of awards and qualifications would prove on to be a better than 'rubbish' paddler.

anyway. ,,

peace,

Simon

i understand the coimment now its been explained, sorry about the sudden outburst, but it did seem quite arrogant at the time.

i know one or two paddlers with few or no awards who are excellent paddlers like you say but people with awards shouldn't have them unless they are at that level.

sorry again and like you say,

Peace and keep paddling
