i havent been in a C1 for quite a while, but i seem to remember its like a kayak roll but u need to lean forwards to stop the boat going up into a stern stall.

Im pretty sure thats not right, however, I dont know the correct way, but I have seen it done, and it was different from a kayak roll.

I've never paddled a C-1 but I read somewhere that you have to use the "Steyr" or backdeck roll.

A "google/yahoo/whatever your fve search engine" search should help out here

Hi
There are basicaly two ways how to roll in a c1

1.Like in a kayak-i.e.-the stroke goes from the front to the back
a. Do a stroke justlike the kayakers do
b.lean backwards
c. in the moment you are almost up lean forward
d. at the same time do a contra stroke to keep balance and finish the roll

2.The stroke goes from the back to the front. You do this most of the time because it is easier and you have much more strenght. it is also the fastest way to roll if you fall on your offside.
a. If you practise this roll on flatwater just plant your paddle on your offside right next to the stern of the boat, if you do it like this you will fall into the water on your offside.
b.then while underwater twist your body so you get on your onside and let the paddle blade remain close to the stern.
c.then just lean on the paddle and do a stroke from the stern to the front and roll up.

Remember- Your head is the last part of your body that goes up(not including hands of course). The most important part of a roll is the hip
action. It is good to practise hip movement- in a pool just hold the side of the pool and use your hips to quickly move the boat from side to side.

Most important- in C1 roll is a MUST. If you do not have a reliable combat roll you will probably swim all the time. (believe me I did...)
