Hanging a Boat for Storage 18 years 10 months ago #7073

I've noticed that many vendors and outfitters hang kayaks from one grab loop from the ceiling. Is it possible that the boat might lengthen slightly if it is stored like this for a long time?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but I know very little about plastics. I was thinking that if the temperatures warmed up a bit then the length might increase at the expense of rocker.

This will not effect the length of the boat but may deform the grab loops for personal storage either lay them flat indoors, upside down outside (UV rays will effect the plastic over a long time so best cover your boats!) or just stand them uprighton on end leaning against a wall

the main problem with hanging a kayak is that it may deform the planing hull. The best thing to do is to stand it on its stern abainst a wall as this puts the least pressure on the hull and prevents it deforming. I am not sure that hanging it from the grab handle is the best idea but if most of the weight is on the floor it should be alright.
