Looking to get some new paddles, for playboating. Do you guys prefer feathered paddles or asymetrical(spelling?) paddles.

hold on, the point may have been missed.

asymetrical blades have a shape which maximises the amount of blade in the water and also keeps it balanced under load, feathering is different, this refers to the angel that each blade is offset.

werner players and many many others are both asymetrical and feathered to an angel of 45 degrees or less.

what i meant to ask about was the feather, my paddles are 45* at the moment, just wondering if 0* feather blades would be better for playboating?

The Foam core paddles WILL break, and all paddles WILL wear down. Nothing lasts forever

I've been using a set of AT2 Flex cranks with a 30 degree feather for over a year for rivers and surfing. They are excellent and very much worth the money, plus they are really tough.. i've smashed them hard of rocks and not a mark. Plus the edge of the blade is tough and is not showing any signs of unravelling unlike a friend's blade.

Regarding the feathering people like EJ uses a 30 degree feather on his AT's, however there is a school of thought that a 0 degree feather is better for stalls. At the end of day you adapt to what you buy. One thing to consider, 0 degree feather will catch the wind more while surfing (on the sea).

Lastly Werner's seem to be a great paddle, but I've seen two sets that leaked were the crank and blade meet. They may be older models but something you may wish to research.

Answering your question I use a player 191 with no feather and happily use it playing, squirtboating and river running,

It does make playing easier and it is easier on your joints too! BUT not everyone who has tried them likes them, either try a friends or lendal do a four piece paddle with an adjstable feather and length system with a choice of shafts and blades from tough nylon through to prepeg carbon!

i still have my original player which has 45 feather which i still use for creeking or rock infested ditches of the UK
