I wouldn't say that just as a item of equipment has passed a test it is automatically good. The olny kayak helmet to of not passed the test ever is the old ace helmet (which if you've never seen one looks a bit like a plastic seive with a chin strap). A lot of the helmets on the market pass the test but don't effectively stay in place on your head. Also a lot of helmets use minicell foam as padding although it is not very good at absorbing large forces (it's not used in Skiing / snowboarding lids).

I'm not saying happy 2b are not good just that not all "tested gear" is great stuff to buy.

What standerds? I have been incognito for a while but I remeber there being no "broad" standerds over helmet companys. Like there are for bike helmets.

My skook came today and its fab! Also its very easy to adjust which is a plus, and doesnt have any stupid bits of foam to stick in like my last helmet had!

they do make nice helmets but i found the velcro strips come undone randomly whilst paddling NOT GOOD! I spoked to the people i bought the helmet off about this and they were not interested! they just said use some tape to keep it together! Ive gone back to using a sweet strutter and will probably get the newer version of the rocker eventually!

and the skook is nice warm in winter in europe  . But not hot in summer. He stays well on your head (when he fits).

at the front and the back of the helmet between the shell and the foam are 2 black plastic strips which are held to gether with velcro which lets you adjust them to make a tighter fit. These are the bits that pop undone at random when paddling have a closer look

Protect your head. Buy a good helmet, because all the paddling is stored underneath it!

As far as I know there are no standards for kayak helmets (CE indicate conformity with the essential health and safety requirements set by some old fart in Brussels who doesn't even know how to spell "kayak"...). Some are helmets actually designed for ski / snowboarding or skating and turned into kayak helmets by tweaking minor things. Many helmets are primarily designed to meet the coolness factor...

I do have a Happy2Be Skook. While I think this is a pretty cool looking helmet and I have been pretty happy with it so far, I do not use it for white water kayaking. I only use it for harmless play boating. For the class III to class IV white water kayaking I do, I got a Sweet Rocker, because I believe that this is one of the few state of the art helmets out there. I believe this helmet is worth the money (while the Skook is not cheap either). For white water kayaking I would recommend a full cut helmet only. Thus, the shell of the helmet should cover the back of your had as well as your ears. The helmet should stays in place either by a shell made out of two pieces (to follow the contour of your head way back to the neck) or by a retention band in the neck. Shock shouldn't be merely absorbed by some pseudo neoprene liner but by some decent shock absorbing foam similar as used in a bike helmet. Fit is extremely important... Now guess what I think about how cool looking a helmet has to be,.. though I am fine with the design of my white water helmet :-)

i don't think so this helmet is really disgned for riverrunning, but for freestyle, because hp2-b has also his creeking helmet

which is what i was refering to! I have the river runner and the lay up is the same as the skook! the plastic things will pop undone making the helmet pretty usless back using sweets as they stay put no stupid things like the happy 2b to fail and so stay put
