Pyrahna Seven-O... Am I in way over my head? 18 years 10 months ago #7137

I am very new to the sport of kayaking; actually I've never been. I live in prime white water territory around Aspen, CO and it's something that I've been really wanting to get into. I found a 2005 Pyrahna Seven-O used a few days last season for a very good price. It was definately an impulse buy, but I thought if I just had a boat, I've have no excuse not to finally get out there. The guy told me as long as I'm determined and atheletic (which I am), it would be a good boat for me to learn on. The more I research boats the more I think he was just pulling my leg- or trying to get rid of his kayak. I am about 5'8" 135lbs, and the Seven-O is the S/M fit... Any ideas??

What would you like to know? Yes you will fit because i'm 5'9" and i fit in my s-m 4twenty with 4" of room till i hit the front. The Seven0 is a bit bigger and is meant for like river play and learning new moves. You will probably progess a lot in that boat. I really love the pyranha line of boats this year. They are well thought out boats and my boat has helped me progress a lott!! have fun and happy boating!! Dunno if i answered ur question though.

the seven-o was designed as a whitw water progressive design, for those who now the basics and are ready for smaller boats.

learning in it isnt a "bad" idea but the leaning curve may be a little steeper and it may give u a few scares before u get to grips with it.

simply put, u may have a rough ride, but if u stick with it, u wont need to change boat for a long time as it will also out play many boats on the market.

best thing to do is to get it out on flat water, get some coaching, and learn how the boat feels, how it respondes, before sticking it on the nasty stuff.

keep it sensible an u'll be fine

Got the boat! Took it out the other day, had an absolute blast. I just found out that my next door neighbor used to teach a roll class, so he's going to take me to a lake near the house and walk me through the basics. This kayak is definately a little squirrely, but I was able to handle it pretty well on flat water. Thanks for the advice!@!
