I really like this old school punk music like the 'Riot Squad' by Cock Sparrer that I just posted in the News Watch. Nice stuff to have in your head while paddling.

I have some more of that old 'Oi!' stuff lined up. If anybody's interested, just let me know :-)

nobody cares about paddling tunes? or is it just that noone likes those old-school punk tunes anymore? should i rather post some dropkick murpheys, or the living end, or just a completely different style? maybe jack jonson...

just wondering: which music styles do you prefer for paddling?

Punkwise I have to say the Dead Kennedys kick ass, so does social distortion.

My favorite paddling music is grunge though. Nirvana and the White Stripes heavier stuff, although all Stripes music is amazing.

Anyone else listen to different types of music depending on what they are boating? I like something to get me excited for playboating, and thats generally hardcore like deathstar or figure four. On the other hand for creeking I generally like mellow tunes for some reason, acoustic is good, or the cure or similar.

I think i might like to listen to jimmy hendrix or god forbid some gangsta' rap. Cocaine would be a good song to get pumped up for some playboating with the ladies. Tom petty & the heartbreakers would work too. Not to mention U2 The Joshua Tree. I could really see myself throwing some sweet tricks to Bullet the Blue Sky.

anyway back to reality, Do you guys actually listen to music while playboating? If so, How?

I personally dont listen to music while botaing, but i know REi offers a waterproof mpe player, and NRS has a waterproof case with a headphone jack so y ou can listen to your ipod while on the water

So the player's taken care of then, does anyone do waterproof phones?

(and for the record, damn near anything, from metallica to old school jazz to hard rock)

Re:Old-school punk for paddling 18 years 4 months ago #11661

yeah man I know what you mean. Run to the water from live was stuck in my head a few weeks ago when we did some hectic stuff. and no matter how hard you try to think of another song to sing while paddling, the same one keeps coming back.

whats nice about the songs are that next time you hear that song of yours it takes you back to that rapid, the sun on your back and the coollness of the water. a few years ago a friend and i worked for a rafting company and we did a lot of 4 day trips. Lemon tree featured big time and we couldn't get the silly song out of our heads. now when i hear it, it takes me back in time.

Not punk, but I've gotten really into paddling to some of Tom Waits' more energetic songs. (think: \"goin' out west\")
