Itty Bitty Problem 18 years 10 months ago #7352

Right basically, i think the reason im having trouble with my playboating is because im a little bit too light for my boat, The weight range is 60 to 100 kgs, and im only 80kgs, so i need a way of increasing my weight in the boat, however i dont lie putting water in the boat as this decreases the performance of the boat. I considered putting weights under the seat, because if i put weights in the front or back it will make paddling a bit weird,

my boat is a dagger g-force 6.3,

if anyone has any thoughts, or any experiance help would be great

thanks

Try putting your seat forward before you do anything. This is the one thing that often makes a big difference.

I've had this problem myself years ago but now that all the playboats are way small it shouldn't be happening if your middle in the weight range.

I don't think weights under your seat will help much as it's the weight of your feet pushing down which makes a difference for cartwheeling and the like.

Hope this helps,

Don't get caught by the trap that changing boats will solve your problems. I've seen loads of boaters assume it is there boat that's the problem and not there technique. Sure get a smaller boat or modify your own and you may be able to throw it around but inevitably, your technique will be poor and you will be held back later when learning more advanced moves. If you're in the middle of the weight range that's the best place to be for all-round performance. Keep practising :)

I hate to say it dude but I agree with the sentaments aired so far that is technique rather than weight. Gutting I know but stay out there and keep practising. Freestyle moves are not easy to pick up (if they were we would all be throwing helixes and trick woos consistantly) but are well worth the effort of learning as like rolling once you have the skill it stays.

at 72kg I am throwing the Pintail around in flatwater. a big boat by today's standards. But, I can only do this because I learned the flatwater stuff bck in the day of the Glide and 007. So i HAD to learn better technique.

It takes longer, but you can do it. It's worth the effort in the long run because that little bit of volume will help you stay in the hole better.

Common mistakes are that people do not lean forward enough, and they do not put their boat up on edge with enough commitment. If you're falling on your head, your on the right track. If you're landing upright, then you're not committed enough.

Got to agree with every one else on this one. Once you have your technique dialled all things become possible.
Getting your seat in the right position will also help. You want your boat to sit level when you are sat still on a flat piece of water.
Lots of practice will help with technique but as importantly will feedback from someone else on what you are doing. If you can’t find someone to watch you then get a video camera out.

I know your just hearing it again but technique is really the best answer to your question. Appeal to one of your buddies to watch your technique and give you feed back (don't be afraid to offer the after paddle beer).

Im the same weight as you and several friends have the gforce 6.3 which are lighter but have long legs so they needed to go up a size to fit in it. it will cartwheel and can be done quite effortlessly once you have dialled the technique and balance points. Again i learned in bigger boats (Inazone230) thi made me use correct technique which in the long run has helped no end!

stick with it buddy n lets us know how you get on
