Conversion from C1 back to kayak 18 years 10 months ago #7369

hi
am looking at buying a vision44 which is currently being paddled as a C1 but i want to convert it back to a normal kayak. (the seller has all its outfittings, which are all unused)
excuse my ignorence but i have heard all sorts from it being very easy to it being totally impossible.
is it easy?
will it leave any pernament damage?
thanks

Depending on how the seller outfitted his C-1 you will probably see some traces of glue and/or foam. With some patience and care you can remove most of it without any traces though. If the seller however did drill holes in the boat you should check whether these would bother use of the boat as a K-1. In case of emergency you can always close a hole using a bolt, nut and washer without attaching anything to it. As long as the bolt does not hinder you it should be fine.

I once had a Blitz Special that was paddled as a C-1 before and never had any problems with the boat (other than me being too big for it so my feet and ankles hurt very much after 15 minutes of paddling).

So, check whether any holes were drilled. If not, you are probably going to do fine. If there are, check whether a filled hole would bother use as a K-1. If not you've got an excellent reason to get soe of the price off ;) .

thanks
Hes doing it all for me after using it for the Europeans so I don't need to worry about that. Also means the outfittings are brand new.
Price is already good because it has a little weld.
